Because the future has not happened yet, none of this work involves predicting it. Instead, it improves your organisation’s thinking about itself by looking at the pressures in it today, the opportunities that could be coming along, and how they will change over time. And it produces answers that link back directly to strategy, structure and implementation.
Martin has been science writer and editor for several of the UK government’s Foresight projects, responsible for writing and editing their outputs and in some cases for their media relations. He wrote the newsletter for Foresight’s Futures Analysts’ Network, better known as the FAN Club, as an associate of Waverley Management Consultants. He was one of the principal writers and editors of the Foresight Sigma Scan, one of the world’s biggest resources of futures material.
